Stock Checks:
Inventory is a fluid commodity. It changes by the
hour (sometimes by the minute). To retain our pricing structure
we maintain stock levels designed to turnover 6 times each
year. We cannot guarantee stock status till we have an order
in hand. All product is subject to prior sale. If we confirm
that we have it - and - while we are waiting for the order
it sells - you would be upset that we did not hold it.
We used to hold items but learned a VERY EXPENSIVE lesson.
When we held items for customers’ orders - the order
never materialized 80%+ of the time. We lost out on
the orders placed while the item was on hold. Also
we wasted staff time that could have been used to pull actual
orders.
Since we are well known for finding older stock the fact
that it may not be on our shelves at this minute does not
mean we can’t get it. So - as we spell out on our terms
pages - we don’t do it anymore. You may - however - call in and we will tell you if the items
are available and if possible attempt to locate what we
don’t have while you are on the phone. |
Please place your order using our SECURE Shopping Cart site:
http://wig-wag-trains-cart.com/home
If you MUST send an e-mail inquiry - copy & paste the entire description TEXT ONLY (NO pictures!) from the
item you are ordering into your e-mail.
It will save time and reduce confusion in determining
what you
are inquiring about.
With the quantity of lines we carry it's not possible to memorize all of them.

December 04 - Atlas has announced a new release of the EMD SD60 & SD60M locomotives in FOUR NEW PAINT SCHEMES - and FOUR with NEW ROAD NUMBERS - all but one will be delivered with three road numbers available as DCC Ready or DCC Equipped with NCE Decoders. Delivery scheduled for the 4th Qtr of 2016. Best Price deadline at Wig-Wag is Noon MST - January 5th. Don't wait to order! We DO NOT order extras for inventory. If you wait - you take the risk of not being able to get the product. Order now we hate to see customers . Here's what Atlas has to say about these locos:
The SD-60 varied little from its SD-50 predecessor visually, the main changes taking place internally with the aging 645F engine being replaced by the 710G. The two locomotives can be distinguished by the door panels; the SD-50 features four latched doors in six door panels whereas the SD-60 has six latched doors in eight door panels.
The "wide nose" or "safety cab" was first offered as an option to US railroads in 1988. Union Pacific received the first units in early 1989. In 1991, the contour of the nose was changed slightly, going from a 3-piece to 2-piece windshield and tapering the sides of the nose to improve visibility for the crew. Burlington Northern was the first recipient of the revised model.

December 04 - Atlas has announced a new release of the ARA 1932 Standard Boxcar in SEVEN NEW PAINT SCHEMES - all will be delivered with three road numbers available. Delivery scheduled for the 3rd Qtr of 2016. Best Price deadline at Wig-Wag is Noon MST - January 5th. Don't wait to order! We DO NOT order extras for inventory. If you wait - you take the risk of not being able to get the product. Order NOW or possibly later. Here's what Atlas has to say about these:
A goal of the American Railway Association (ARA) in the early 1920s was to produce an all-steel box car that could be recognized as a standard by the member railroads. Although the original design presented in 1923 produced in excess of 60,000 cars, it wasn't until a new design was presented in 1932 that the member railroads gave their approval.
After extensively testing five prototypes in 1933, over 14,500 cars were produced for twenty-three railroads throughout the following decade. This design soon evolved into the 1937, Modified 1937, and Postwar AAR box cars.
Although not the most popular design produced, numerically speaking, the 1932 ARA Standard box car is considered one of the most important designs in railroad history. |
Features:
- Accurate painting and printing
- Friction-bearing trucks
- AccuMate® couplers
AccuMate® couplers are made under license from AccuRail, Inc.

PROTOTYPE INFORMATION:
For the first half of the 20th century, bulk goods were usually bagged and carried in boxcars. After the late 1940s, covered hoppers greatly simplified the process by allowing the bulk material to be poured in through the roof hatches and dumped out the hopper bays. However, flour, starch, sugar and plastics do not “flow” easily from a standard hopper bay. To solve this problem, the Fuller Company of Catasauqua, PA, patented the Airslide concept. In an Airslide covered hopper, the bays are formed into two narrow, steep-sided troughs with a layer of air-permeable material at the bottom. Air is pumped through the material causing the lading to fluidize and flow easily through the hopper outlets. Starting in 1953, General American Transportation began building Airslide covered hoppers. One of the two original configurations was a 2,600-cubic foot, single-bay car with a 70-ton capacity. In addition to railroad-owned cars, there were a number of Airslide covered hoppers leased by GATC to sugar and bakery companies.

PROTOTYPE INFORMATION:
The 1960s was a period of development that would set the course of railroading as we see it today. The North American Car Corporation designed and built a 50’ outside post, insulated, plug door box car which proved to be a vision of developments to come. Several railroads rostered this car with most of them either purchased by or leased to private shippers. The NACC cars were frequently decorated in complex, colorful paint schemes. When the NACC cars were built, general leasing, billboard paint schemes and modern freight handling techniques were still at least a decade in the future.

Part #: MTL-450 00 140 - Erie Western -
Road Number 208500
This 40’ trailer is white with diagonal blue and green stripes. One way some smaller roads made money was by leasing piggyback trailers. One of the more unusual fleets was Erie Western, which ran a portion of the Erie main across Indiana for a few years in the late 70s. Using trailers was a secure way to transport freight.

Part # MTL-Per Diem Series
Beginning February 2016
Accepting Pre-Orders thru October 31st! |
In the 1970’s a surge of colorful boxcars could be seen all across the country as larger railroads leased more and more boxcars from shortline railroads. To encourage the return of the boxcars, shortline railroads could charge a per diem, or daily fee, until the cars were returned. Incentive Per Diem (IPD ) boxcars were primarily 50’ rib side boxcars with 10’ sliding or plug doors or double sliding doors.
Our 12-month series will feature a colorful assortment of twelve new paint schemes of Per Diem boxcars from various shortline railroads. Contact your
dealer to place your order for this series today! |

November 1 - Pontification Time: While I hunkered down here in Mogote bivouacked near the RR working on the Rapido announcement (that I hope will be complete in an hour) I was listening to Sirius XM 70's on 7 for Casey Kasem's American Top 40. As he counted down to Gladys Knight & the Pips Midnight Train to Georgia (their first #1 on 10/27/73) I was once again reminded of Sunday nights spent doing homework and counting down with Kasey. Then I was troubled by all the consternation the Casem family has gone through since his passing. I sit here in the cold of the San Luis Valley and pray that they can once and finally find the peace and tranquility that Kasey brought so many of my generation especially as he concluded each week with this phrase: "Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the Stars." Now that AT40 has concluded for this week I will put in the Garth Brooks DVD from Wynn Las Vegas - the "Blame it all on My Roots" Concert. What better day can one have? |

A Note on
Stock Status:
Not all items can be in stock at all
times. Due to minimum order requirements from manufacturers
and distributors and shipping charges - we "bunch"
up re-orders to save you money. Sometimes it takes longer -
but we can continue to offer the item at a substantial discount
that way.
Confused about Reservations?
Please consider that this is the way
we pay the bills and put food on the table. Taking pre-orders
allows us to order enough to cover known demand. We attempt
to gauge (ok - guess) how many will be ordered after the order
deadline plus allow us to have the item in stock for 45-60
days after shipment by the manufacturer.
Sometimes we get it right and sometimes we don't. Occasionally -
when an item is not likely to be produced again (D&RGW
H-15-44s for example) we order beyond our guess to have a
few for longer than that.
