Stock Checks:

Inventory is a fluid commodity.  It changes by the hour (sometimes by the minute). To retain our pricing structure we maintain stock levels designed to turnover 6 times each year. We cannot guarantee stock status till we have an order in hand. All product is subject to prior sale. If we confirm that we have it - and - while we are waiting for the order it sells - you would be upset that we did not hold it.

We used to hold items but learned a VERY EXPENSIVE lesson. When we held items for customers’ orders - the order never materialized 80%+ of the time.  We lost out on the orders placed while the item was on hold.  Also we wasted staff time that could have been used to pull actual orders.

Since we are well known for finding older stock the fact that it may not be on our shelves at this minute does not mean we can’t get it. So - as we spell out on our terms pages - we don’t do it anymore. You may - however - call in and we will tell you if the items are available and if possible attempt to locate what we don’t have while you are on the phone.

Part #: MTL-030 00 260 - Sierra Railroad - Road #: SERA 5009 - 50' Rib Side Box Car, Double Doors, w/o Roofwalk This 50’ rib side box car with double doors and no roofwalk is painted white with red lettering and runs on Barber Roller Bearing Trucks. The Sierra Railroad started servicing the businesses in and around the foothills of the Sierras in the late 1800’s. In the 1980’s they found themselves needing new cars that they didn’t have the budget for. The railroad utilized the Per Diem program to add modern, safe, freight cars to their system. Part #: MTL-071 00 051 - Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe - Road #: ATSF 295005 - 89' TOFC Flat Car Part #: MTL-071 00 052 - Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe - Road #: ATSF 295019 - 89' TOFC Flat Car These 89’ T FC flat cars are painted red with black lettering and run on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. Built in 1997 by Bethlehem Steel Car Co., these Class DT-91 cars were two of a fleet of 300. As of 1991, 291 cars were reported still in service according to the Official Railway Equipment Register.
Part #: MTL-085 00 080 - Pennsylvania - 'One-Of-A-Kind' - Road #: 250000 - 33' Panel Side Twin Bay Hopper This 33’ panel side twin bay hopper is painted black with white lettering and runs on Bettendorf trucks. Pennsylvania railroad was known for fleets of coal hoppers, but unique among them was the singular two bay GLf 250,000 expanded bay hopper. New sides were applied to a standard hopper that allowed for an additional 15% capacity but the conversion never caught on with the railroad who favored higher capacity three and four bay hoppers.
Part #: MTL-111 00 180 - Baltimore & Ohio® "Chessie" - Road #: B&O 255795 - 89' Tri-Level Closed Auto Rack This 89’ tri-level closed autorack has yellow uprights, black lettering and aluminum roof. Built in 1980 as part of series 253886-256187 these autoracks are unique in that railroads leased the lower deck from companies like Trailer Train but owned the auto enclosure on top and B&O was no exception.

Built in 1968 by National Steel Car these helped railroads like CPR move expensive bulky freight to the customer.

Built in 1913 as part of a fleet of 63 Pullman Standard 10-1-2’s that operated on almost every coastal and cross country route, these cars offered some of the best overnight accommodations of the time.

Built in the shops at Barney and Smith in 1910, NYC had a huge fleet of both 60’ and 70’ baggage cars owing to the amount of freight they transported each year up and down the Eastern Seaboard.
Part #: MTL-451 00 301 - Navajo  - Road #: 1003 - 45' Trailer (67000) Part #: MTL-451 00 302 - Navajo  - Road #: 1070 - 45' Trailer (67000) These 45’ trailers are painted aluminum with red lettering.  Navajo Freight Lines, formally the Boulder Dam Freight Lines, began service during the 1940’s and its brightly-colored distinctive logo can be found all over the Western US.  These modern, lightweight trailers carried a wide variety of freight from building materials to industrial equipment to perishables over short and long distances.
