Stock Checks:

Inventory is a fluid commodity. It changes by the hour (sometimes by the minute). To retain our pricing structure we maintain stock levels designed to turnover 6 times each year. We cannot guarantee stock status till we have an order in hand. All product is subject to prior sale. If we confirm that we have it, and, while we are waiting for the order it sells, you would be upset that we did not hold it.
We used to hold items but learned a VERY EXPENSIVE lesson. When we held items for customers’ orders, the order never materialized 80%+ of the time. We lost out on the orders placed while the item was on hold. Also we wasted staff time that could have been used to pull actual orders.
Since we are well known for finding older stock the fact that it may not be on our shelves at this minute does not mean we can’t get it. So, as we spell out on our terms pages, we don’t do it anymore. You may, however, call in and we will tell you if the items are available and if possible attempt to locate what we don’t have while you are on the phone.

This 40’ standard box car with single sliding door and freight load is painted UP synthetic red with Armour Yellow logo and slogan, as well as yellow lettering. It was built in May 1940, serviced in July 1960, and runs the Northwestern District on Bettendorf trucks. UP 190572 was built in the Grand Island Shops in May 1940, numbered into the 190000-196599 series and remained in interchange service for 30 years.

Part #: MTL-020 00 446 - United States Air Force - Road #: DAF 26476 - 40' Standard Box Car, Single Door

This 40’ standard box car with single door was built by Pullman Standard under government contract. Painted blue with white lettering on sides and ends, these cars carried military materials. The USAF operates rail lines at certain installations but today most rail shipments are replaced by air or truck.

This 40’ standard box car with single door is painted olive green with white lettering and the insignia based on that of the WWI Corps. This series of 5 cars was built in 1949 to be used by the Department of Defense to transport ammunition.

This 40’ standard box car with single door is painted black with green band and yellow stripes and runs on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. Built in 1939 by Canadian Car & Foundry as part of series 11050-11099 it is lettered THROUGH BAGGAGE and operated at the headend of passenger trains and was equipped with steam, air and signal lines.

Part #: MTL-049 00 710 - Nestlé® Baby Ruth® - Road #: NADX 4093 - 40' Double-Sheathed Wood Reefer, w/ Vertical Brake Wheel

These 40’ Wood-Sheathed Reefers are painted brown with yellow sides and run on Bettendorf trucks. This colorful billboard scheme painted by Curtiss Candy Company promoted their Baby Ruth Gum and Baby Ruth Candy brands. Baby Ruth was acquired by Nabisco® in 1981 and then Nabisco® sold their Curtiss brands to Nestlé® in 1990.

This 65’ 100-Ton log car is yellow with black lettering and runs on 100-ton Barber Roller Bearing trucks. This car consists of two trucks fitted with cross supports over truck bolsters; the trucks are connected by a skeleton or flexible frame and logs loaded lengthwise on cross supports.

Part #: MTL-147 00 020 - Great Northern - Road #: 400 - Heavyweight Baggage Car

This 70’ baggage car is painted Pullman Green with metallic gold lettering and runs on 6-wheel Commonwealth trucks. This car was used by the Railway Express Agency on the headend of Great Northern passenger trains to haul express packages. GN 400 was part of a 26 car series (GN 400-425) and was rebuilt from a standard heavyweight passenger car.

Service Outage - We were advised this morning May 10, 2015 ~ 10:30am that Century Link was reporting a service interruption for the Web and it would be back on approximately 5:30am on May 11, 2015. November 1 - Pontification Time: While I hunkered down here in Mogote bivouacked near the RR working on the Rapido announcement (that I hope will be complete in an hour) I was listening to Sirius XM 70's on 7 for Casey Kasem's American Top 40. As he counted down to Gladys Knight & the Pips Midnight Train to Georgia (their first #1 on 10/27/73) I was once again reminded of Sunday nights spent doing homework and counting down with Kasey. Then I was troubled by all the consternation the Casem family has gone through since his passing. I sit here in the cold of the San Luis Valley and pray that they can once and finally find the peace and tranquility that Kasey brought so many of my generation especially as he concluded each week with this phrase: "Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the Stars." Now that AT40 has concluded for this week I will put in the Garth Brooks DVD from Wynn Las Vegas, the "Blame it all on My Roots" Concert. What better day can one have?

Not all items can be in stock at all times. Due to minimum order requirements from manufacturers and distributors and shipping charges, we "bunch" up re-orders to save you money. Sometimes it takes longer, but we can continue to offer the item at a substantial discount that way.

Confused about Reservations?
Please consider that this is the way we pay the bills and put food on the table. Taking pre-orders allows us to order enough to cover known demand. We attempt to gauge (ok, guess) how many will be ordered after the order deadline plus allow us to have the item in stock for 45-60 days after shipment by the manufacturer.
Sometimes we get it right and sometimes we don't. Occasionally, when an item is not likely to be produced again (D&RGW H-15-44s for example) we order beyond our guess to have a few for longer than that.
